Kristin Klimley, Psy.D.
Clinical Psychologist / Clinic Coordinator - St. Petersburg
Dr. Klimley specializes in trauma therapy, behavioral change, and substance use interventions. She has experience with the development and provision of behavioral health and peer support trainings First Responders statewide. Additionally, she has worked extensively with hostage negotiation teams in the South Florida area. Dr. Klimley is also a published author on topics of PTSD within first responder groups, firefighter specific stress assessment, and commercialized sexual exploitation of children with the FBI.
Dr. Klimley earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2020. She completed her clinical internship with the Veterans Health Administration in Bedford, MA where she worked with Veterans with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Prior to this, she completed formal trainings with the Family Violence Program, Adolescent Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program, the Miami VA, and the Memorial Physical Rehabilitation Hospital. She also has experience conducting comprehensive psychoeducational, and diagnostic assessments (i.e., Autism, ADHD/Executive Functioning, IQ, Learning Disorder, PTSD/VA claims, general mental health conditions).
Dr. Klimley has specialized training in Cognitive Process Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD). In therapy, she employs a variety of methods catering to an individual’s unique history and strengths as well as their current needs and goals. Dr. Klimley’s therapy approach commonly incorporates awareness and insight building, solution-focused interventions, mindfulness, and behavioral life skills to create a more balanced approach to one’s mental and physical health.
